Product
tip of the month
Now
is the time of year to grab your dive gear our of storage and attend to
any repairs or service requirements. If you own a wetsuit, BC or anything
neoprene (and if you are a diver, chances are you do) and it has a small
hole or tear there is no need to panic - all you need to do is head down
to your local Oceanic dealer, grab a tube of McNett Aquaseal and
go for it. But before you even open the tube here are some tips for you.
Clean the damaged area with Cotol-240 (also available from your Oceanic
Dealer) Trim any loose threads and apply Aquaseal to surfaces directly
from the tube or with a knife or flat stick. Allow your repair to dry
overnight or longer for very thick repairs. For fast cure (2 hours or
less), mix in Cotol-240.
Holes & tears in dive gear - create backing with removable
tape. Fill hole and around 1cm beyond with Aquaseal. Remove tape after
Aquaseal has dried.
Seams - Apply 2ml thick bead overlapping seams edges by at least
5ml. Apply with slight pressure to saturate fabric surfaces.
High Wear Areas - apply thin coat with knife for flexible abrasion
resistance.
Warning - Fully cured aquaseal is slippery when wet. For added
traction on footwear, sprinkle sand on uncured Aquaseal 1/2 hour after
applying.
Clean up - to remove Aquaseal from hands, clean with cloth soaked
in paint thinner or nail polish remover.
Storage - move contents to tube neck. Wipe neck clean and replace
cap. Keep in cool, dry place. For extended life, place in freezer. To
thaw or for easier-flowing contents, soak tube in warm water for 15 minutes.
Now you're ready to go diving in your perfectly repaired scuba diving
equipment.
Of course for major repairs and for most drysuit repairs take back to
your Oceanic Dealer and they will most likely send them in to the Oceanic
service department where our wetsuit/drysuit technician Sean will attend
to your gear. By the way, Sean just happens to be our Oceanic
team member of the month so check out his profile above.
